American Welsh Stick Chair (Feb 16, 2020 )
Chair from the anarchist design book. Used the set of templates that they sold to get a head start on it. I really enjoyed making this chair, and it was my first full-fledged stick chair. The dowels are store-bought, but everything else is oak from The By Way.
Outdoor Coffee Table (Sep 27, 2019 )
This was a quick but very special project because I got to work on it with my grandmother while she was visiting. She absolutely loved using the handplane and kept going until she got blisters. I took a random slab with an interesting profile and added some turned legs to it.
Holgado Bed (Lucia) (Sep 14, 2019 )
A big kid bed for our oldest Lucia. Was a lot of fun to design and tweak to figure out some pleasing dimensions. It started out as the headboard and footboard being the same height, but tweaked it after realizing it was going to look massive. The By Way white oak with exposed joinery finished with Osmo Polyx Satin oil.
Kay's Kitchen Island (Dec 1, 2018 )
Melissa's Grandmother Kay wrote me a letter asking me to make her a kitchen island. She had some dimensions and requirements, and I happily obliged to make it for her. The legs are red oak from The By Way, the rest of the base is white oak from our property as well. I bought oak 1x2s from Home Depot to finish the bottom shelf since I didn't want to deal with planing/prepping all those small sticks. The top is a butcher block top that I bought from Lowes which was also reasonably priced and saved me a bunch of labor. The drawer is quite large and my first attempt at using drawer hardware. I had a lot of trouble getting the damn drawer box to fit in after following the ridiculous instructions. I turned the knobs and I remember having a hard time getting two knobs to match well enough. I think she was pretty happy with the end result, even though it might have not matched her aesthetic.
Hand Saw Cabinet (Oct 27, 2017 )
After acquiring enough hand saws, they started to overtake my shop. I desperately needed a place to consolidate them. I made this hanging cabinet to store them and life has been good ever since. The wood was some walnut flooring that I got from a coworker. The construction was complex, but quickly realized. This was the first drawer I ever made, and the first half-blind dovetails that I cut. A really fun, low stress project that built up skill and became a great addition to the shop.
Live Edge Sitting Bench (Sep 5, 2017 )
My second staked furniture project started out as a coffee table for the MC Product Managers office at Ponce City Market. It turned out way too nice to take to the office, so I kept it instead.
Toilet Paper Holder (Jun 22, 2017 )
Toilet paper holder with a nice shelf.
Staked Saw Bench (May 17, 2017 )
My first staked furniture project from the Anarchist Design Book.
